Snow Day 2011

Yes I am still catching up. I am even more behind now because Mac was sick again with a stomach bug last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Three of his classmates were also taken down by this thing... not fun. All the kids are feeling better and back in school this morning exchanging Valentines and enjoying getting back to their normal routine.

Snow day. February 4th (also my cousin's birthday and because of the snow she didn't have to go to work) we were frozen into our homes. I got a call around 6:45am letting my know my office was closed and Jimmy even got to be at home because the roads were too icy. We had breakfast and made it a pj day. I did venture out around 2pm when everything had melted away so I could get out of the house but for the most part we were at home being lazy.

I wanted Mac to see the snow and this gave us the perfect, and probably only, opportunity for him to use his big huge ski coat! I bundled him up and we went outside to check things out.

Mac was not too sure of the snow. I put some on his hand and he immediately started trying to shake it off!

Last year's snow day, Feb 23rd...
Soooo Tiny!!!

Hope ya'll had fun in the snow! I am just glad it was only here for half a day!!

Sugar Cookies

Mac likes food. Any food. We have yet to find something he refuses to eat. Ok, he doesn't like banana chips but they really aren't that good so you can't really blame him. When Mom was down she messengered a tupperware bowl full of Mamaw's Sugar Cookies and nice card just for us (for Mac). Mamaw's sugar cookies are super fantastic. I love them. Guess who else loves them...Mac.

I wish I had taken a picture of the tupperware full of cookies but no such luck. Mac and I (mostly I) finished them off in 3 or 4 days. Jimmy doesn't really eat a lot of sweets and I certainly wasn't going to force the issue, ok fine it just meant more for me... and Mac.

Everytime Mac would come into the kitchen and see the red lid he would grin and point and say "Duh, duh, Duh!". HAHA so cute. Of course that meant we had to split one.

By the way, anyone in MTP reading this feel free to tell Mamaw the tupperware is empty... hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge, pre-heat the oven!!!!

Female Football Clinic

Last Thursday was an exciting day for me! I got to do something new and fun and it was all because of my husband. Lemme explain...

So one morning I get a text from my hubby letting me know that he is going to sign me up for a female football clinic hosted by AM 1300 The Zone (sports talk radio here in Austin). I said "ok!". It is a clinic to learn the basics of football or brush up on the game if you already know whats going on. I don't know what's going on in football. Half the time the fakey thingy that the QB does with the other dude seriously fakes me out, I have no idea where the ball is but I figure that is good and he is doing a good job. I am usually quite impressed with their fakey thingy skillz. (Does this give you some insight into my lack of football knowledge... yes... ok)

Jimmy is very interested in getting me interested in football. He L.O.V.E.S. the game, it's his FAVORITE sport. I in VERY interested in Longhorn football because I graduated from UT and that is the extent of my interest and concern for this beloved game. Jimmy thinks that if I know what is going on then I will like it as much as he does and I agree that that is probably true! He is very willing to explain things to me when I ask him questions in the middle of a game. And always encourages me to ask, he likes explaining the game. And I think that is awesome because I know some guys could never be interrupted in the middle of a game to explain a play or a penalty to a girl. Hubby = Awesome.

That said... He thought the clinic would be cool. And it was!! It was held in the Samuels Diamonds Lounge at Clear Channel Radio. They had awesome food provided by Newk's Cafe. I had the chicken salad sandwich and their greek salad... YUMMY!! The brownie was phenom and I almost had another but found self control at the last minute!!

Bucky, the host of Buck On Sports morning show, and Rod Babers, host of Sports Buffet, were our hosts for the evening. They talked a little bit about football a lot about football pads... Rod, a former Longhorn player changed into his old uniform at one point. There was Q&A at the end and they explained everything when asked but I will chalk this up to a fun time. I can't say I learned very much about the game but this was the 1st Annual clinic so I am sure the next time they will have a better understanding of time management and content.

Here are some pictures from the clinic!
(I didn't get a picture of Bucky for some reason... I thought I did but not so much...)

The Lounge... it was pretty cool in there.

UT koozies... I took 4. Thank you very much The Zone.

Our Samuels Diamonds gift bags... nope, no diamonds in that bag.

Rod letting us know why men LOVE football so much, it's the super hero complex and a primal thing... apparently.

This is Rod with a jock strap. He didn't use one if you were wondering... yeah neither was I but it was funny. This was during the equipment portion of the evening! hahaa.

Rod after the wardrobe change. Remember the jock strap... yep he is wearing it over his tights!! hahaha!!

Rod Babers and Me

Two Weekends Ago

My mom came down to visit! We had a great time but somehow I did not get very many pictures of Mac and Nana together?! :( She arrived Friday evening around 6pm and we promptly got her back in the car and went to eat at Good Luck Grill in Manor. She had never been so we had to take her there. So good... After supper we went back to the house and played with Mac for a little bit before bedtime.

Saturday morning we cooked breakfast and then Mom and I headed downtown so she could take pictures of urban decay and architechture for her photography class. We spent two hours downtown taking pictures!!! We left when it started to sprinkle, ran two more errands and got back to the house around 1:40ish. I felt bad because she came down to see Mac but when we left the house Mac had just gone down for a nap and slept for about 2 1/2 hours. So even if we had been there he would have been asleep a majority of the time so it worked out! :)
Here are a couple of her pictures that she turned in for class...

As soon as we got home I had to start getting ready because we had scheduled family pictures with Jocelyn at 4pm at Town Lake. We were 15 minutes late but we had the best time and got some great pictures! I will put some up when I get them back from her! And Mac was so awesome during picture time. We were out there for 1 1/2 and he was fine the whole time and his Dad was pretty cooperative too!!

After the shoot we went to Ramo's to eat. We took Mom to all the hottest spots in Manor haha! Once we got home we watched Secretariate, such a good movie, and just lounged. Mac played with Mom until he had to go to bed. Sunday morning we had pancakes and Mom slowly gathered her things. She left around 10am, too soon. It was such a short visit but I don't think any visit from your Mom is long enough.

Playing Blog Catch Up

My last post was over a week ago, things have been crazy... what can I say. I will be posting (fingers crossed) several catch up posts over the next few days.

Last week Mac was sick, it's hard to blog with a sick kid pulling on your pj pant leg wanting to be held and who am I to deny him snuggle time so the blog was cast to the side. And I'm ok with that. Anyway, turns out that Mac had an ear infection. Last Tuesday daycare called and said he had a fever of 100.3 but he had just gone to sleep and I asked if it was ok to come pick him up when he woke up? I figured if he didn't feel good then why bother him, they said it was ok and they would take his temp and call me when he woke up. The rule for the daycare is after the child has a fever you have 2 hours to come and pick them up.
He slept for a while and I finally called to check on him and they said he was still asleep but he woke up soon after that and I got the call. At that time his temp was 101.4, I just figured he was teething and not feeling well since he is cutting 3 molars at the same time. However, by the time I got to daycare, 15 minutes later, his temp was 102.4. I gave him some Tylenol and we were headed home. I called his nurse and she wanted him to come in so then we were headed back to town.

The doctor said it could be a virus or beginning ear infection since his ears were a little red but he wasn't comfortable prescribing antibiotics when there was no infection present and if it was a virus then it just had to run its course. He said no daycare on Wednesday just incase it was a virus and to check back by Friday if the fever kept spiking over the next couple of days. That evening we had another high temp of 101.7. I gave him some ibuprophen and that helped. But later Wednesday night Mac woke up around 2:30am screaming, I was already in his nursery sleeping in the recliner because he wouldn't sleep without me in the room, and when I picked him up he was hot. He had a temp of 104.7! I gave him some ibuprophen and called our doctor's after hours line. We almost had to go to the ER but finally got to talk to our on call doctor and she said to wait and go to the office the next morning. By this time it was 3:30am and she said the ER wait would be 5 to 6 hours and if he didn't have the flu he would by the time we left the hospital.

We saw our doctor the next morning and Mac has a right ear infection. He is now on Amoxicillin and until this morning regular doses of ibuprophen. He is feeling better and I am glad he is acting more like himself now. And that he is sleeping through the night again. He felt so bad that he would not go to bed and he barely slept. He slept with me and Jimmy 95% of the time from Tuesday to Friday night.

This was Wednesday morning. He was balled up into the tightest little ball, poor baby. I was checking on him every 5 minutes so that he didn't wake up and fall off the bed!

This was his bed head after he woke up... he had such a rough night with fever and being sweaty that his hair was everywhere!!
